Recent studies show about 1 in 8 American women develop invasive breast cancer in their lifetime. However, there is good news! The rates of breast cancer diagnoses in the U.S. began decreasing in 2000, and death rates from breast cancer have continually gone down since 1989, thanks to medical advances.
This is not a disease that just affects “them.” It’s very likely each of us know, have known, or will know someone affected by this terrible disease.
One of our own Compassionate Entrepreneurs, Cam Murphy Brown, shares how breast cancer has touched her life:
“The breast cancer awareness line is very personal to me as my mom lived life with metastatic breast cancer for ten years. Last year when my sponsor was sharing the opportunity for me to partner with Trades of Hope, the breast cancer awareness line spoke deeply to my heart, and it truly was the icing on the cake for me to become a Compassionate Entrepreneur.
First, I learned that 10% of the net proceeds are given to the Pink Ink Fund which supports breast cancer warriors needing assistance with their post mastectomy tattoo needs. Then, the beautiful pink collection caught my eye, but there was one in particular that had so much meaning to me and even to this day brings me to tears. When I saw the Conqueror Bracelet* with "BRAVE" inscribed on the charm, I just knew I had to be a part of the mission of Trades of Hope.
My mom's final words to me on October 13, 2006 were "Be Brave!" Of course, the Conqueror Bracelet* was my first purchase from Trades of Hope, and it inspires me to be brave daily for myself and all the breast cancer warriors especially my biggest inspiration, my mom, Gracelyn.”
