Our Trades of Hope artisan partners are no different. In honor of Earth Day, we would like to spotlight one of our artisan groups in Jordan who recently participated in a community event attended by 100 women. Our lead artisan, Jumana, shared some information with the women regarding the importance of recycling, as well as how various materials within their homes that would normally be thrown away can be recycled. Then she and the other artisans showed them some of the raw materials they use to create items they sell: newspaper, magazines, soda cans, glass bottles and more. They brought examples of their new creations from recycled materials and then hosted a demonstration with the women, teaching them how to make a paper bead necklace that the women could take home.
Our artisans really enjoyed being able to engage with other women in the community in this way and were planning to partner with a youth program this Earth Day weekend to share with the next generation what they know and what they can do. This is a beautiful representation of hope and love as they share their stewardship of creation by building bonds and pouring into their communities. We invite all of you to do your part as Earth Day celebrates its 47th year!
