Sometimes, a girl in the Philippines can be discriminated upon early in life due to her culture and customary gender biases. In certain families, when money is hard to come by, the boys in the family are given an education and the girls do not attend school. They usually take on an abused and submissive role. In certain places, the public sees these women as sex objects and stereotypes them as such. But Fair Trade groups are changing that by helping these women artisans develop skills to sell their products to the world!
