The Gift of Goats
A healthy dairy goat can give up to 16 cups of milk a day. Goats are practical animals - flourishing in harsh climates while producing valuable manure to fertilize crops and vegetable gardens.
Restetuta is a woman in Uganda. She now cares for her ten year old niece Teopista. "When the goats give birth again, we will sell off some of the younger [goats]," says Restetuta. "We will use the money to buy Teopista a school uniform, books, and beddings. We can also buy food with some of the money. We know that those goats will be of benefit to us in future."
Trades of Hope considers it a privilege and a blessing to be able to give back through the sales of our products and home parties! Thank you for changing the world with us!
The Gift of Sewing Machines
"I love the sewing program because it means I can take care of myself and my family." - Suzette
Our home parties and online orders have been going so well this season! Because of this, we are able to give through Gifts of Hope again this month!
We just gifted Heartline Ministries, in Haiti, with a financial contribution so that they can purchase another sewing machine for a woman to earn through their sewing program.
Heartline has worked tirelessly for over 20 years in Haiti and is one of the most respected and effective organizations in job training and discipleship in Haiti.
"I had to stop going to school as a child because my parents couldn't afford it. I would like to give my children a better chance." - Roseline
Trades of Hope considers it a privilege and a blessing to be able to give back through the sales of our products and home parties! We have more great things planned for December!
This is Maribel and two of her three children in her rented house. She and her husband both work together to keep their children. They migrated from their small town in Guatemala looking for jobs. Maribel's husband found work in a field. Maribel found a sustainable income by making knitted hats - and also bracelets that she sells through Trades of Hope! She is able to work from her home so she can be there for her children. This work has allowed her to enroll her children in school. This makes her very happy!
Maribel and her husband hope that one day they will be able to move out of the rented house and buy land for a new home. Because of Fair Trade and their sustainable income, what seemed impossible has become possible! Maribel is grateful to all of those who buy her hats and her jewelry, because it represents a valuable income that allows her family to have a better life.
