Following a series of events and traveling to Uganda, Chicago, Florida, and Nepal, Ashley and Dustin received a phone call from Amazima Ministries! Amazima was founded in 2008 by Katie Davis, author of Kisses from Katie. This ministry has a devoted passion for education, feeding the hungry, encouraging vulnerable families, and creating sustainability! Trades of Hope partnered with Amazima in 2012, offering the Imani Necklace handcrafted by a women’s beading group in Masese. Katie meets with this group regularly to purchase their necklaces, build relationships, lead a Bible study, and offer them further training. Through phone calls, Skype interviews, meetings and more the decision was made by Dustin and Ashley to move their family to Uganda and work with Amazima Ministries for the school Trades of Hope also supports.
Schools in this region are not easy to come by. Some students travel 3 hours for school, and often times the education is coupled with abuse. The Amazima School offers a safe, well-rounded education to students including learning about farming and community outreach. The school started in February of this year with 72 students, but the full campus hopes to eventually educate 800 students each year.
We are so excited to partner with Ashley in this adventure! Trades of Hope supports Ashley and her family monthly through our Gifts of Hope program, and we look forward to witnessing our own CE as she continues to change the world!
